Children and students may need extra supervision during the eclipse, as they may not fully comprehend the risks involved. Early learning and child care facilities and schools are encouraged to have plans in place to keep children indoors during the afternoon to ensure they don’t view the eclipse unless appropriate eye protection is available and worn. Note that anyone who may not understand the risk or have difficulty following safety instructions are at greater risk.

As such, MVSD is requiring that all students in Grades K-8 and vulnerable students in all grades are kept inside during the hours of 12pm-3pm unless they are released to the care of their parents during that time. Please keep students inside for noon hour and recess breaks that will occur during these hours.

The Manitoba School Boards Association sponsors the Student Citizenship Awards, which recognizes outstanding young people throughout Manitoba who are active participants in their communities and schools. All students (grades 9 to 12 only) in regular attendance at a Manitoba public school are eligible. The nomination deadline is Friday, April 5, 2024. Click on the link to learn more!
